It’s a close approximation of the real GSM-7/Unicode SMS segmentation rules (160/153 characters per segment for plain text, 70/67 for text containing emoji or non-Latin characters), but carriers can vary slightly in practice.
Why is the Meta description limit shown as ‘around’ 155–160?+
Google doesn’t enforce a strict character limit — it truncates based on pixel width, which varies by device. 155–160 characters is the commonly used safe estimate.
